On March 16th, 1966 in California, Paul Van Doren and three other partners open up their first shop selling shoes directly to the public. The company grew massively during the 1970's and become a favourite of many skateboarders alike.
In 1997 Vans expanded further by introducing a brand new range of men's apperal. It began with a slow start, but by combining forces with Pacific Sunwear in 1999 the line recieved a massive boost. The goal was to become the dominant supplier of skateboarding apparel in the United States. This amalgamation of Vans and Pacific Sunwear proved to be fortuitous for both companies as they now have a significant share of the market, competing with established brands such as Rusty and Quicksilver.
