Fred Perry became a worldwide clothing brand in the late 1940's. The three time Wimbledon tennis champion Fred Perry was appraoched by a manufacturer with an idea to make his name a household brand. Fred Perry started making sportswear such as polo shirts and shorts but this quickly evolved into head to toe clothing... from plimsols, flat caps and hats. As well as sportswear, Fred Perry also produced a number of shirts, both short sleeve and long, these were picked up on the English fashion scene and were used widely by the likes of the Mods, Skinheads and more aptly named Perry Boys of Manchester.
