Founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee as the Lee Mercantile Company in Salina, Kansas the company started to produce dungerees and jackets. Their first substantial growth was prompted by the introduction of the Union-All work jumpsuit in 1913, followed by their overall in 1920. 

During the 1944s Lee became the leading manufacturer of work clothes in the US. Then in the 1960s the company diversified, concentrating more on casual wear. 

Lee still retained it's focus on denim and is now more commonly know for it's branded denim jeans. Lee is owned by VF Corporation, the biggest apparel organization in the world. The company identify themselves as an interrnation retailer and manufacturer of casual and work wear.
